Don’t Know Why I Got So Attached

Don’t Know Why I Got So Attached

I like trying out genres. “Don’t Know Why I Got So Attached” gave me a chance to try Reggae on for size. It was a fun change to my usual. The song is a great way to release some frustration.

Lyrics

VERSE:
I may have had your heart for a little while
It should’ve made me happy and made me smile
But nothing like that was in the cards – oh oh oh oh
I never claimed that I’d be perfect
It would be hard, but damn we’re worth it
But you would never open up and let it start – no

CHORUS:
I could never lose what I never had
I feel a fool for feeling sad
It’s always easy looking back
Don’t know why I got so attached
You had me hooked on feeling bad
But now I refuse to be upset
It’s always clear in retrospect
Don’t know why I got so attached

VERSE:
This beautiful love
Was just a fantasy
Made up in our hearts
But it was never meant to be
Whenever we finally got together
It never brought us anything good
We couldn’t make it any better
And any words spoken just never held truth

CHORUS:
I could never lose what I never had
I feel a fool for feeling sad
It’s always easy looking back
Don’t know why I got so attached

BREAK:
Don’t know why
Don’t know why
I I I I I
Got so attached
Don’t know why
Don’t know why
I I I I I
Got so attached

VERSE:
There’s a new day dawning
There’s a whole new start for me
It’s a new time coming – No
more wasting it on what’s never meant to be
What was never meant to be was never meant to be
All I can do is set it free baby
So there you go baby
I set you free

REPEAT CHORUS

(Bolivar rap)

BREAK:
Don’t know why
Don’t know why
I I I I I
Got so attached
Don’t know why
Don’t know why
I I I I I
Got so attached

BRIDGE:
Your words
They’re like honey to a bee
They bring me to my knees
but this time round
There’s a change in me
you’d be a fool not to see
That this girl
Has a had change in tides
A vision crystallized
The pieces came together
and opened my eyes
To realize

REPEAT CHORUS TWICE

The Story Behind The Song

How Did The Song Come About?

Bolivar and I had been working on another project when he gave me this music. He made it sound like he wrote it and told me I could use it to write my own song on.

Inspiration

I heard a song by Amy Winehouse with the line “I don’t know why I got so attached”, which I thought beautifully found.

What’s The Song About?

The song is about regretting a relationship you were once in.

Why’s The Producer Unknown?

Well, it turned out it wasn’t Bolivar who produced the music. I’d created the video for the song and while uploading it, it got blocked due to copyright issues. To my surprise, it didn’t get linked to anything Bolivar had done, but to an Italian singer who’d already used the song for a remix of one his songs. I don’t think he wrote it either.

I contacted a lot of people trying to get to the bottom of it, but never managed to trace who produced the music.

Two years after originally uploading the video, YouTube dropped the copyright claim and I could publish the video.

Release

The song was originally released in 2015, but due to all the issues, it got an official release in 2017. I’m doing a new mix on the recording now, so it can be part of my upcoming album, “Looking Back Then Moving On”.

Trending

When I shared the song on a musicians platform, the song started trending right away. .
