Can’t Convince My Heart

Can’t Convince My Heart

My acoustic guitar ballad “Can’t Convince My Heart” is about not being able to let go of a love that’s not worked out. It’s a lovely change from all my usual electronic music.

Lyrics

VERSE:
Set me free from this love
Let me start a new
After falling deep
Now what’s a heart to do?
I can’t walk away
Though I know I should
Thought that time would weaken what I feel,
but time isn’t doing me good

CHORUS 1:
Am I not enough to get you off
Hell, it shouldn’t have been this tough
We should walk inline to the same beat
But you’re throwing around no heat
This ain’t going nowhere and all of my mind knows, but..
still I can’t convince my heart to let it go

VERSE:
Take these thoughts away from me
For they are haunting me down
Is there an antidote that shuts the longing out
You’ve cast a spell on me
And it’s got me in it’s claws
Though  I knew damn well where it lead
I should’ve broken my fall

CHORUS 2:
Am I not the kind to get you high
Well that’s a shame, I can’t deny
We could’ve been so close to a good place
But you didn’t want to see it that way
This ain’t going nowhere and all of my mind knows, but…
still I can’t convince my heart to let it go

BRIDGE:
Sleepless nights I’ve spend just staring at the ceiling
And all the while I planned many way to fight this feeling
For every time I blinked I wished it all away
Or contemplated schemes to make you want to stay

VERSE:
Set me free from this love
Just let me start a new
But after falling so deep
Now what’s a heart to do?
Don’t ask me to walk away
Even though I know I should
Thought that time would weaken what I feel,
but time isn’t doing me good

CHORUS 1:
Am I not enough to get you off
Hell, it shouldn’t have been this tough
We should walk inline to the same beat
But you’re throwing around no heat
This ain’t going nowhere and all of my mind knows, but..
still I can’t convince my heart
No, I can’t convince my heart
No, I can’t convince my heart to let it go

The Story Behind The Song

How Did The Song Come About?

I got my heart broken and the heartbreak was lingering. That’s when I wrote the song.

Inspiration

I was listening to Natalie Imbruglia a lot, at that time. Musically, I wanted to sound like something that could fit in with her first album. Much later, Kim came up with the guitar and that turned it an simple acoustic song.

What’s The Song About?

It’s about the attempt to break free from the emotional aftermath of a break up. That constant going around in circles in your mind. How did it happen. The self doubt that occurs. In the end, you wish you could just flip a switch and start a new love.

Release

It was like 10 years after I wrote it, when I found it back and played around with background vocals to make it appealing. That’s when I uploaded the song to ReverbNation. It’s going to be on the upcoming album “Looking Back Then Moving On” so it should become available on streaming services later.
