Madonna is a tough live act to follow. For many years her tours are best sellers. And with the Rebel Heart Tour it looks like she’s holding her thrown. From the moment Madonna took to the stage last night in Montreal, Canada social media started to blow up. It’s clear that Madonna is still able to take you places with her artistic expressions. Additional to what we already knew about the tour, the pictures on social media show there’s an Asian and medieval influence in the opening act, and the Charleston era also passes by later in the show. As always the video backdrop plays a big part in her show, sometimes increasing the amount of dancers to really look like a team of warriors, but fanart is also used to fill the backdrop (and they’re really good too!).

Madonna hasn’t slowed down in her attempts to shock people, so on this tour she surfs on a nun (not wearing much) holding on to a cross. That should keep the critics occupied. Meanwhile Madonna has already moved on, ofcourse,  and turns to the guitar to play a ballad version of “Who’s That Girl”. Other classics are more or less combined with newer material. Her opening act Diplo also joined Madonna on stage during her show last night.

So far the social media reports; the first press reviews are also starting to come in and are very positive, stating that this is probably Madonna’s “lightest and warmest show ever” (NY Daily News) and that the show’s a “theatrical spectacle that artfully flowed from showstopper to showstopper” (Montreal Gazette). Once again, it looks like she’s still the Queen of Pop.
