I’d received news about a new Jennifer Hudson release, literally in the last few minutes of my day, but I’m so glad I decided to check this one out. It’s worth a blog. As unpredictable it may have been for me to like Goldfrapp, in my last blog, you could probably guess that I would fall for this track, in a heartbeat. This is my jam of the week!
“Mr DJ” brings back that sweet retro 80s and 90s sound and is linked to other artists such as Babyface and Ma$e (who does a feature) to boot! Things couldn’t sound any more promising. Oh, wait…. The launch of the video was pretty impressive too. It had a Netflix premier. So, unlike where you may expect to find your new music videos, now you also have to check in with Netflix. What can I say? Any content is content in the streaming business.
I do take this song as a little bit of fun for everyone involved, even for Adam Sandler who plays a major part in the video. It’s like it’s offered everyone the excuse to reminisce and goof off with the video, but it is actually a trailer for an upcoming movie. Secretly though I’m hoping it might have the unexpected side effect to put Babyface and Ma$e back in the picture. Even if it’s just for a moment, because listening to this track, I just realized I hadn’t listened to any Ma$e tracks since the 90s, probably.
