Remember the hits “Angel Eyes“, “Wishing I Was Lucky“,”Goodnight Girl” and “Love Is All Around“? The Scottish band, Wet Wet Wet,  took these songs to the charts late 80s  and early 90s. In particular, the latter stayed at number one for 15 weeks in the UK.

In the late 90s, success became a bit more difficult to come by and lead singer Marti Pellow, known for a permanent smile on his face, had become addicted to alcohol and drugs. He left the band to sort his problems out and tried his hand at a solo career in 2001. Since, he’s released 5 solo albums, from which 2 were cover albums and 1 included new versions of Wet Wet Wet tracks.

But, in a true “Sweet Little Mystery” fashion, you can currently see Marti Pellow in the play “Blood Brothers“. After joining the musical “Girls’ Night Out” for charity, just for one week, Pellow got offered his debut in theatres at London’s West End in 2002. Playing lawyer Billy Flynn in “Chicago” even brought him to Broadway two years later.

Since, he’s been part of many musical related events, like Sir Tim Rice’s Chess Revival (a concert also released on DVD), Evita on Tour, Aladdin, Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds – Alive on Stage, Jekyll and Hyde and he played the lead in the Witches of Eastwick.

Wet Wet Wet reformed in 2004 and released an album in 2007. They’ve only done a few performances, but will now embark on a 17 date tour to promote a special re-issued edition of their hit album “Picture This”.
