Kesha, reportedly, broke down in tears after losing her preliminary injunction motion today to break free from her producer Dr. Luke.
Kesha’s Request To Be Released
In 2014, Kesha sued him to release her from her contract and accused him of sexual assault and battery. The alleged abuse eventually led to her checking into a rehab clinic to be treated for an eating disorder.
Dr. Luke denied the claims, filed a countersuit and got the support of mother label Sony Music.
Request Denied
Today, a judge denied her request to be released from the contract. The request was denied because the court judged her contract to be heavily negotiated and it is nothing out of the ordinary for the music industry.
A day before the ruling Kesha took to her social media to thank her fans for all the support and encourage other victims of abuse to take her lead in standing up against their abusers.
Delay In Music
The trial was expected to delay Kesha’s music career indefinitely, and perhaps even ending it. Her last album stems from 2012.
Kesha took up an acting career in the meantime to keep working.
Sony Music
It’ll be a difficult situation for all involved to be forced to work together, when the professional relationship between the two has been so distroyed. Sony Music has offered Kesha a way to record without Dr. Luke, which she did not believe. Kesha still has to record 6 more albums under this contract.
Tough times ahead, but she’s a warrior.
