The Potential Of Mic Lowry

Years ago, while I was working with some producers, we got word about this new group looking for r&b songs with a strong 90s feel. The group was Mic Lowry. At that time, there was not too much available on them online. Just a few acappella bits that were still not really sounding too perfect. Nevertheless, we heard their potential and offered songs.

They never chose any of our songs to record, which is such a shame… for us. LOL! ‘Cos, in the meantime, the group has grown so much, both in skills and popularity. I blogged about them before, because of this.

Growth Spurt

Still, I was pleasantly surprised catching up with their latest releases. The clean cut looks are gone. They look hip and trendy. Mic Lowry have made it their specialty to mix some old songs with something new. I can see such a grow spurt from on-the-job experience.

Their EP was released 2 years ago, but they’ve mixed releasing cover songs and covers ever since. After their original release, “Tesla”, in October 2018, they’ve now released a new mash up. This time it’s Destiny’s Child’s “Say My Name” that gets completely reworked and intertwined with Drake’s “Girls Love Beyonce”. It’s funny, but in “Tesla”, they bring the smoothness into the song with their harmonies. But in their mash up, they really pull off their rap game, too.  And BTW, it’s not the first time they covered Drake, nor that they covered Beyonce. In fact, they seem to be among their favorites to cover. Altogether, I think they stayed pretty true to their love for 90s R&B, because the way they did this song somewhat reminds me of when Shai did “If I Ever Fall In Love”.
