Katy Perry

Katy Perry blog

As you know, I have a thing for lyrics. I love songs that sound like fluff, but have something to it when you pay attention to the words. BTW, with fluff I don’t mean anything bad about the song itself, but I like contradictions. Like when a song is up-tempo and so super catchy, that you would easily discard it as being something superficial, but it actually isn’t.  It’s like discovering a secret.

Katy Perry’s “Chained to the Rhythm” is one of those songs. With her colorful appearances and care-free pop songs, you would almost forget that Perry really knows how to pick her songs and usually has an incredible focus and insight to what she wants to reach.

When she returned to music with “Rise”, recorded for the Olympics, I thought she wasn’t going to be big as she was before. The song didn’t really have that type of power to me, but with “Chained to the Rhythm” and it’s political undertone, I think she might just reclaim her throne as the All American Pop Princess.
