It wasn’t all that long ago when I first blogged about Nelly Furtado. She has just collaborated on someone’s mixtape and I expected the tracks to surface, but they never did. But now, I am glad to announce that she is back!
“Behind Your Back” is the first track she’s released since 2012. Already having played around with so many genres, Nelly has now turned to a bit of funkiness. And just as with all of the other genres she has embarked on, this is no problem for her to master either.
The intro of the song reminds me of the early Hip Hop tracks you would expect in the 80s from A Tribe Called Quest or De La Soul, but it doesn’t take too long for the song to fully reach its potential. The song quickly gets retro, soulish and funky with some great bass lines and synthesizers.
