“Out Of The Box” is a pop-rock song with 80s influences from electronic music. It’s the first song I ever recorded and produced by Gholar Fix.

Lyrics
VERSE:
Let me break out
Of your image of me
Adjust your vision
Or just set me free
‘Cos time has not been standing still
And I have not been waiting ’til
You could find some time for me
The days that passed were lessons learned
I love and lost and I got burned
I’ve got to sing to a new beat
CHORUS:
So think of what we’ve lost
Think of the time it cost
Think, and don’t assume too much
Try to think
Out of the box
VERSE:
I let you take lead
Did not correct your thoughts
But now lately
You’re really drifting off
‘Cos time has not been standing still
And I have not been waiting ’til
You would figure out you’re wrong
I’ve grown each day, I’ve lived and learned
And I have left no stone unturned
But you could never know if I’m gone
REPEAT CHORUS
BRIDGE:
There were too many issues
You never took notice of
Thought nothing could harm you
or throw me right out of love
But time take it’s victims
And I let it carry me away
to a much better place
To a much better place
REPEAT CHORUS

The Story Behind The Song
How Did The Song Come About?
I wrote the original lyrics when I was a teenager and rewrote it in 2005 to publish onto MySpace. That’s where a Dutch producer, who worked under the name Gholar Fix, ran into it. I don’t know why he was drawn to it, but he composed music for it. It was so different from what I had in mind, but that’s why I love these collaborations. Such surprising things can happen.
The song is actually the first ever song I recorded in a studio. I remember it was such a weird experience. It was a mystery to me what he had in mind, so we recorded it line by line. I left not really knowing how the song would sound. I was pretty surprised by what he made of it.
What’s The Song About?
It’s about trying to get through to someone. About trying to get a second chance at something, or someone, by showing growth.
Where Was Autocorrect?
The funny thing is, that it’s a bit of a Danglish lyric. Dutch / English. I think the actual English phrase is “outside of the box”, haha. I was young(er) and didn’t know better then.
Release
It was uploaded to my website, MySpace and ReverbNation in 2005. Just for the sake of sharing my attempts at songwriting.
