Something different from me: Ballads!

I’ve uploaded two previously unreleased songs to my ReverbNation page this week and they are something different from me: They’re ballads! Because the songs are different I don’t consider them to be “official”  releases, but just music to share with you as they are part of my growth as a song writer. What the tracks have in common is that the lyrics and topics aren’t as bubbly and light as what you usually hear from me. It’s about heartbreak, so there’s some drama and sadness in these songs. This has also allowed me to play around a lot with background vocals as well as a different musical sound, which is showing a little bit more of a mature side of me.

No Good At Starting Over

In the summer of 2014 I started writing this song and even blogged about it during my #31daysofmusic, but when other songs started to get finalised, this song got a little sidetracked. A few weeks ago I finished the song and you can now listen to it right here or on ReverbNation. The song is a Soul/R&B track that wasn’t intended for me to sing on it, but it’s lovely to listen to anyway. The lyrics are also available on the site.

Can’t Convince My Heart

This song goes a little further back than “No Good At Starting Over”. I originally wrote the lyrics in 2004 and knew it was intended for guitar rather than keyboard. At the time I was listening a lot to Nathalie Imbruglia’s debut album and had the intention to make it sound similar to her music. By the time I got the chance to work it out with a musician, we didn’t get it developed further than this simple acoustic version. I’ve rerecorded the vocals a few weeks ago and made a quick mix for upload. The lyrics of this song are also available.
