Music magazine NME had to reinvent itself in an attempt to save itself. For years NME has been one of the most respected magazines and news sources, heavily cited in artist biographies. However, just like many other magazines they’ve been having a hard time keeping afloat, so a reorganisation was announced a few months ago. The new NME was going to be free.

Fast forward to now, the new NME is launching tomorrow. On the cover of it’s first free issue is the ultimate it-girl, Rihanna. While normally speaking Rihanna’s cover photos could already give you enough topic for discusion, this time the very fact that she is on the cover is causing some commotion.

“Serious” music fans don’t consider Rihanna NME material. Well, we could argue that… BTW, it’s not the first time she graced the cover. She was also on the cover in 2010, but fact is, that her cover today really does announce a new era for NME magazine.

The first free edition will be distributed throughout the UK and available at many different pickup points. You can also subscribe on the NME website
