Music for cats?!

Trijntje

Trijntje, my cat

I figured if I’m publishing short articles about the power of music on people, I can’t possibly ignore this news story that music has been made especially for cats and cats love it?!

Now I’ve been a cat owner for pretty much all my life and I know they have a very good musical ear. Apparently they hate anything sounding off key, so all my cats have had to suffer a bit at times living with me. But all together they seem to appreciate music in general.

Still my current cat friend, Trijntje, shows signs of not fully liking my choice in music. Dance music in particular doesn’t seem to please her much. But I can apparently please her with songs especially made for cats. The songs include meouws and purrs as well as sounds within their own hearing range. According to a recent study cats really like take a liking to their music.

Over the years I’ve heard about a few studies about music and animals. It seemed safe to assume that classical music was preferred amongst the animal kingdom, but this is not necessarily the case for cats. Though they didn’t mind the classical music, they showed more signs of liking music that was composed especially for them. So I guess this cat band is now ready for their big break.
