Amid all the stories about Bill Cosby, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who played Theo in The Cosby Show, recently spoke out about the reputation of the popular comedy show being ‘tarnished’. Still, the show brought forth a lot of good, the beautiful Lisa Bonet for one, the now always outspoken, Raven Symone, and Malcolm-Jamal Warner himself.

Though we mainly know him for his work as an actor, mainly in comedy, he branched out into directing and music quite quickly after the Cosby Show stopped running.

In 2003 his first album, “The Miles Long Mixtape”, was released with his band The Long Miles. Four years later, he released “Love & Other Social Issues”.

With his band he delivers a mix of jazz, funk and soul. Malcolm-Jamal plays bass and provides spoken word and poetry. They are an independent band who you can currently book as “The Miles Long Experience“. An evening out that combines food, music, spoken word and comedy.

This year he won a Grammy for his music with the Robert Glasper Expirement on the Stevie Wonder cover “Jesus Children“. Watch the making of this song below.

With this Grammy in his pocket, expectations are high for his upcoming EP “Selfless“, which features fellow Expirement members Lalah Hathaway and Robert Glasper, but also has appearances by Rahsaan Patterson (whom I only remember from “Where You Are“) and former Mint Condition member Stokley Williams, with whom he released his first single “I’m Ready“.
