Ari, LDR and Miley – Odd Pairing of Angels

When it was announced that Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey were the chosen combination for the new title track of the upcoming Charlie Angels movie, I thought this was a great idea. I believe that the best things can be found in the unpredictable.

Creative Angels

All three ladies are at their peak right now. Lana Del Rey has reinvented herself as LDR for her latest album “Norman Fucking Rockwell”, which has received critical acclaim to be her best album yet.

Miley Cyrus is equally on a roll with her EP “She Is Coming” and her stand-alone single that addresses her recent breakup. Both Miley and LDR recently cover Ariana songs on BBC’s Live Lounge, because, as you know, everything Ariana Grande releases turns to gold. At the moment, she’s the IT-girl.

Only For The Movies

So, combining these three ladies would be a sure commercial thing. One of those combinations that could only happen for a movie. It’s a records exec ultimate wet dream. A music blogger dream girl group set up, despite the throw off of Lana Del Rey being in it. I mean, let’s face it, she’s the odd one out.

Don’t Call Me Angel

The song “Don’t Call Me Angel” was released last week, but due to circumstances I only got to check it yesterday. I think my expectations were too high. Unreachable even for the likes of these three artists.

In short, I think this song is an Ariana Grande song featuring Miley Cyrus and the only thing making it interesting is the break by Lana Del Rey. She adds an exciting tension or dynamic to the song.

I’m not saying it’s a bad song and I don’t like it, but as an Ariana song, this is not her best work. Guess I’m falling back on the Destiny’s Child song “Independent Women”. Much better, but I’m sure it’ll work great in a scene in the movie though.

Angelic Vocals

Nevertheless, the ladies do get my stamp of approval to repeat a collaboration though. I couldn’t imagine how their voices would go together and each have their individual styles, but that part comes together nicely.
