Country x Pop Singer LeAnn Rimes

Maybe it’s politically incorrect to say – after all, country music is not my forte – But every time I see Taylor Swift, I see a similarity with LeAnn Rimes. Both broke through at an early age. LeAnn as the teenager with the big grown up voice. Taylor as the teenager with an insane amount of talent as a songwriter. They both continued to have major success within country music. Both also had crossover successes within those days, but then, Taylor pushed it forward and became a full blown pop star. LeAnn wanted to do the same.

Utilizing YouTube

It’s a known struggle for the singer. She was ambitious enough to want a big pop career, but just like Adam Lambert, she experienced creative restrictions from the team around her. Every once in a while, she would get her way, but the country genre has always remained home to her.

Last year, the singer started taking the sweetest revenge by taking the creative freedom social media allows. Simply by sharing. She started posting informal unplugged sessions on YouTube. In these videos, she covers all kinds of popular songs, from pop stars like Celine Dion to alternative classics, like “Wonderwall” by Oasis.

The LovE Sessions

Nevertheless, it’s her latest covers of Rihanna songs that actually caught my eye and introduced me to her “LovE Sessions”, the series of unplugged videos. Her big voice is still amazing to hear. Sometimes, she steps away from the mic and camera, so she doesn’t overpower the take. For me, with my little, soft voice, this is an envy. She stays very true to her country roots. That vocal slide is applied wherever possible, but you can’t deny her singing is still impressive – just like all the awards showing in the background!

Below, you’ll find the full playlist of the LovE Sessions. I recommend the Roberta Flack cover of “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face”.

Busy Year

Currently, LeAnn is on tour and she’s hinting at a new album. Her last officially released song is “Borrowed” with Stevie Nicks.
