Ah, it’s finally arrived. “New” music by Jessie J. Yes “new” (in quotes), because the song is a cover of the Frankie Valli song called “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You”. But don’t feel disappointed that her first new track in about a year (or so) is a cover.
The song has been reworked completely and it’s, by far, become one of the best versions I’ve heard of this classic. The old Frankie Valli version stems from ’67. Well before my time, and you may only know it if you are one of those people who went to see the Jersey Boys musical. I’m sure it passes as one of his many musical highlights.
Since, it’s become one of those songs to always appear in a reworked cover version, almost every decade. Boys Town Gang introduced me to the song, early 80s. Their disco pop version still referred back to the original, but updated it very well.
