Boyz II Men

Concert Review: Boyz II Men

An act that gets you to see them perform for the fourth time is definitely an act worth seeing. That goes without saying. Though the first few concerts I saw were back in the 90s, before and during the height of their success , I also went to see their Vegas show in 2013 and 2014. I already blogged a little bit about the show for Beat The Odds (read here), but now that I saw the show again I have to admit it’s worth mentioning again.

It’s not the first time I’ve seen the same show of an artist a second time and even though a lot of a show is defined in advance it still holds surprises coming in for seconds. Throughout the Vegas show Boyz II Men randomly take you through the group’s journey, both through music and talk. They take you back to the days of Motown where they found their initial inspiration to pursue their career. They proudly show their moms with whom life began. And the fans get praise throughout the show who’d granted them success.

Though Boyz II Men are not the best of dancers they still put on a good attempt and you already know they’re not going to disappoint on the singing. The segment that takes them back to their high school days showcases they still got what they are best known for: Their silky smooth harmonies. For those familiar with the early Boyz II Men days, this segment of the show also reunites them with their former fifth member Marc Nelson, who left the group before their break through. Speaking of their break through, I was glad to see them perform “Motownphilly” this time around. The song that got them noticed for the first time was not performed in the 2013 Vegas show.

Actually, all the hits pass you by in one shape or another and the guys go out of their way to make you a part of everything. The show is not a must see for all tourists traveling to Vegas, but it is a great night out! If you kept in the loop with this group a little during their high time, you will absolutely love this show.
