Jay Z wins court case and reaches out to fans

Published April 21st 2015

Jay Z and Roc Nation have won their lawsuit against engineer Chauncey Mahan who claimed to have co-written 41 songs of their catalog. The engineer  filed his lawsuit a year ago, but notified Roc Nation back in 2000 of his ownership of the masters. The judge decided that, considering his track record in the music industry, the engineer had let too much time pass to bring the case to court though royalties were owed to him in this case. With the court’s ruling Jay Z retains his ownership of his Roc-A-Fella master recordings including material used and recorded for his album “Vol 3… The Life and Times of S. Carter”.

Speaking of the life of S. Carter, Jay Z and other artists who are now owning the Tidal company, have surprised a few listeners with a call. The calls were made to thank them for having continued to stick by the company and listening to the streaming services in these times of change. Just last week the CEO of the company was replaced and some other staff was laid off. Meanwhile Jay Z, as a true boss, is enjoying a holiday in Hawaii and the release of his new video “Glory”.
